Rock Fore! Dough proceeds will help local young golfers tee off

Some people say the Garden City is the place to be during Masters week. While some will be trying to see the course, others will be looking for fun events around the area.

The Rock Fore! Dough concert is doing more than playing people’s favorite music. It helps kids who may not have the resources to be introduced to the game of golf.

When people think about Augusta, Georgia, the first thing that comes to mind is the Masters. But are local children being exposed to the game?

The executive director of First Tee of Augusta says money is the main reason kids aren’t picking up the clubs.

“You can put a basketball goal up in your yard, and you can play day after day and doesn’t cost you anything,” said Jill Brown.” But with golf, you have to have a golf course, and you have to have clubs. For many people, that is something they are not familiar with.”

For 15 years Rock Fore! Dough has partnered with Augusta’s First Tee program in its mission to help local kids tee off.

“100% of the proceeds go back to benefit the First Tee of Augusta,” explained Brown. “Everything it takes for us to deliver that circular either here or our local elementary schools, or our outreach in summer camps.”

Not only are they learning how to hit a hole-in-one… they’re learning values like integrity, sportsmanship, and respect.

“Those are the real things they get out of our program,” said Brown. “Learning positive life skills through the circular, and the experience they get for being at our club.”

Now that Masters week is here, First Tee’s executive director says it’s the perfect opportunity to expose your kids to the game.

“We invite all families to come out whether you know anything about golf or not, said Brown. “Let this be a great place to start, and we will do what we can to help you and  especially your children.”

Last year alone, Rock Fore! Dough generated 1.6 million dollars for First Tee of Augusta. Membership at open to students seven to18 years old.
