South Aiken takes the crown back, wins 4A girls soccer state championship

The South Aiken girls soccer team is bringing home the state championship trophy for the second time in three years.

The Thoroughbreds won the South Carolina High School League 4A state title with a 4-1 win over Eastside High School on Friday night at W.C. Hawkins Stadium in Irmo, S.C.

It was also a chance for the T-Breds to get revenge against the team that knocked them out of the playoffs a year ago when Eastside won on penalty kicks in the Lower State Finals.

South Aiken raced out to a 3-0 lead in the first half. Jordyn Myers opened the scoring with a great lofted shot to the back post to beat the Eastside goalkeeper. Minutes later, Megan Musick’s well placed corner kick was met by Ally Bollig with a brilliant header to the near post, again leaving the Eastside goalie helpless. Musick would get in on the scoring as well, with a 35-yard shot that found the back of the net before halftime.

Eastside answered with the opening goal of the second half. But Gracie Beeson shut the door on any hope of a comeback with a long-range goal to close out the scoring.

Many players were also part of the 2017 state championship team, giving South Aiken two of the last three 4A state titles.
