Three local softball teams earned their way to the Georgia High School Association state softball tournament in Columbus, Georgia.
Only the top eight teams from each classification played their way to Columbus.
In 6A, Greenbrier fell behind 3-0 to Pope before rallying for a 6-4 win. Greenbrier’s second game, scheduled for 7 p.m. on Thursday night, was postponed due to heavy rains. Greenbrier will take on Harrison at 9 a.m.
Also in 6A, Evans took a 4-3 lead over Dalton in the top of th 6th inning on a Diamond Williams solo home run. Dalton would score the tying run in the bottom of the 7th after Emily Brunson’s line shot up the middle deflected off Evans pitcher Leah Powell’s shin. Powell recovered from the shot, but her throw to first got away and Lauren Parker scored for the tying run, 4-4.
Dalton would load the bases later in the inning, and Keen Johnson would drive in the winning run for the Catamounts, 5-4.
Evans will play Houston County at 12:30 p.m. in a elimination game.
In 2A, Harlem was defeated 7-0 by Temple. Harlem will play Heard County at 2:15 p.m. in a elimination game.
