AUGUSTA, Ga. (WJBF) — Former Atlanta Braves all-star pitcher John Smoltz visited Augusta on Monday for the “Dinner with Champions” event hosted by First Baptist Church Augusta.
Smoltz and former NFL player and college coach Bill Curry were the keynote speakers at the event, which raised money for the Augusta Rescue Mission.
“All the things that I have been fortunate enough to be a part of, any chance that [I] can get to make a difference, or send a message, or leave an impact, that’s always what I’ve been brought up to do,” Smoltz said. “Whether it’s in Atlanta, my community, Augusta, or wherever I’m at, it’s a pleasure and an opportunity that as many chances as I can, I take up on them.”
Smoltz also said he had the opportunity to play Augusta National on Monday and shot a 78 from the back tees.
