To Whom It May Concern:

As of March 15, 2018, I am announcing my retirement from Thomson High School as teacher, Head Football Coach of Thomson High School and Director of Football Operations to be effective Thursday, May 31, 2018.

I have been teaching and coaching in the public school system for the past thirty-three years. Previously, I coached for two seasons at my alma mater, Middle Tennessee State University. Throughout my career, I have had the pleasure of coaching and teaching alongside with many of Georgia’s best educators and coaches. Collectively, we have led the 1991 LaGrange High School National Championship football team; two State Championship teams (1991 LaGrange AAAA and 2002 Thomson AAAA) and returned the 2016 Thomson High Football team to the State Championship game. Additionally, many numerous region championships and honors have come our way. The Greatest rewards for me were experienced on the practice fields and in the classroom everyday teaching and molding young men for their futures.

I would like to thank my Principal, Mrs. Carla Shelton and my Athletic Director, Mr. Larry Dunn and the outstanding faculty and staff at Thomson High School for their unwavering support these last four years. I would like also to recognize and thank the Thomson Athletic Booster Club for their hard work, dedication and tremendous support of our coaches, players and school. Without the commitment of time, excellence and tradition from our Booster Club, our Football program the last four years would have not achieved the success we have experienced with 39 Wins and 12 losses, two Region 3 AAAA Championships, one Region 3 AAAA Runner Ups, 2016 State AAAA Runner ups and placing 28 Student/Athletes into College.

Over the past thirty-three years, I have accepted teaching and coaching jobs for my career. Today however, my retirement and future plans are based on God’s lead and what is best for my family. We have accepted a Defensive Coordinator position at Prince Avenue Christian School in Athens, Georgia. Prince Avenue participates in the GHSA and has been to the semi-finals the past three years in football.

Respectfully Submitted

Rob Ridings
