The Josey Eagles girls basketball team needed a minor miracle to keep their season alive. They got it. At least for an extra few minutes.
Josey trailed Model 41-35 with 26.8 seconds left in regulation in the Georgia High School Association 2A quarterfinals. The Eales would rally behind a pair of three pointers, a made free-throw and crucial rebound to force overtime, 42-42.
Rhykeria Rollland hit a three to pull Josey closer, 41-38. After a Model free throw, Josey’s Jakiyah Parker was fouled with less than five seconds left. She made the first free throw to cut Josey’s deficit to 42-39. She missed the second free throw, which was rebounded by Rolland, who passed to Amani Jones. Jones hit the game-tying three-pointers as time expired to force overtime.
Josey was outscored 9-5 in overtime, as Model advanced 51-47.
In other action, Laney advanced to the 2A semifinals with a 64-43 win over Rockmart.
The Thomson boys team fell to Sandy Creek 59-44.
