The North Augusta girls basketball team wil go for their third straight 4A state championship on Saturday. The Yellow Jackets (26-2) will take on South Pointe (24-2) on Saturday, February 27 at Colonial Life Arena in Columbia, South Carolina.

North Augusta is led by 4A Player of the Year, Mya Burns. South Pointe is led by Scarlett Gilmore, sister of Super Bowl champion defensive back Stephon Gilmore.

Yellow Jackets head coach Al Young lost several key players from the back-to-back state championship teams from the previous two years, but he’s proud of his current team for battling their way back to the title game.

“We talked about getting back here. We didn’t know if we could, but we knew it was possible,” said Young. “We just kind of held on to that possibility of getting back here. We worked through things and I thought our young ladies showed that they thought it was possible by the work they put in,” he continued.

“Again, I just can’t praise them enough for how hard they work and preparing themselves for this opportunity.”
