Midland Valley falls short in state championship bid

High School Sports

The Midland Valley Mustangs nearly rallied back to force a game 3 in the South Carolina 4A state championship series against Eastisde. Already down a game in the best-of-three series, Midland Valley fell 8-7 to Eastside, coming up short of the program’s first baseball state championship since the 1996-97 team won the 3A title.

Trailing 8-3, heading into the 7th inning, the Mustangs rallied to pull within one run of the Eagles. Down to their last out, and with runners on the corners, a chopper up the middle was cleanly fielded by the Eagles, and a force out at second base ended the Mustangs rally.

Midland Valley won their first ever 4A Region 5 championship and the Lower State Finals during their run to the state championship series.
