The high school football season kicks off Friday and Ridge Spring-Monetta is hoping this is the year it can finally break through and win a title.
Kenny Lipsey’s first freshman class is now seniors, and they’ve advanced to the Upper State finals in two of the past three seasons.
They have the experience, and Lipsey believes if they can remain together, it can be an exceptional year.
“I’ve been telling these kids all summer they have something special,” Lipsey said. “We camped at school and slept in the gym for two nights. They’ve just come together as a family and if we just all pull on the same rope, it’ll be hard to divide us.
“They’re hungry to get back and they want to take the next step and get to the big game, so we’ll just take it one game at a time and try to get better every day.”
The Trojans open the season at Batesburg-Leesville on Friday.
