Georgia Tech announced Monday that former Washington County star A.J. Gray is stepping away football due to a heart condition.
“I’m extremely saddened for A.J. and our team but, in the big picture, health always trumps football,” head coach Paul Johnson said. “I’m grateful that A.J. will be able to continue to attend Georgia Tech and earn [his] degree.”
In 2016, Johnson had high praise for Gray: “I think he’s got the opportunity to be one of the all-time great players at Georgia Tech.”
Gray tallied 147 tackles as a two-year starter for the Yellow Jackets.
