Jaguars face more challenges than just stiff competition in this weekend’s 3M Augusta Invitational

College Sports

The Augusta 3M Invitational typically attracts top notch college golf programs and that’s as true as ever this year. The 15-team field includes three programs ranked in the top-5 nationally; Augusta will take on 2nd-ranked Texas, 3rd-ranked Georgia and 4th-ranked Illinois this weekend. But Jaguars head coach Jack O’Keefe explained how hosting the tournament brings on more challenges than just facing elite teams.

“It’s tough playing at home because expectation levels are pretty high for the guys, and it’s also pretty high for the fans and the media and the boosters and the alumni, so it’s a different week,” he said. “But really, the biggest thing is to stay patient; Just give yourself opportunities. We’d had different guys play well during the year, it would be really special to get four-to-five of them all playing well at the same time, and that’s the trick of college golf.”

The tournament is set for a 9 a.m. shotgun start Saturday at Forest Hills Golf Club. Participants will play 36 holes Saturday and the remaining 18 holes on Sunday.
