Anna Parviainen is one of the most talented all-around student-athletes in the CSRA.
She’s ranked in the top ten in her class at Lakeside with a 4.0 GPA. Plus, she has nearly perfect SAT and ACT scores.
Parviainen is also a three-sport varsity athlete for the Panthers. She runs cross country, swims and plays lacrosse.
Parviainen has consistently excelled in academics and athletics, but she suffered the biggest setback of her athletic career when she tore her ACL in the spring. She relied heavily on her grandfather, and the lessons he taught her, during her recovery.
“My grandfather, Dough Clepper, is a really resilient, hardworking man, and he’s definitely one of the biggest inspirations in my life,” Parviainen said. “[The biggest lesson I’ve learned from him is] even though life may hand you one thing, it’s what you make of it. As long as you work hard and push through, it’ll end up OK.”
“He’s really a role model for all of my kids,” Anna’s father, Peter Parviainen, said. “He works hard at his job, but also spends a lot of time with his grandkids, and I couldn’t ask for a better father-in-law.”
Parviainen plans to study biochemistry at Georgia Tech.
