(WJBF) – Veterans have until August 14, 2023, to file a PACT Act claim to be eligible for backdated benefits.
While there is no deadline for veterans to sign-up for PACT Act benefits through the VA, veterans who file a claim, or submit their intent to file a claim, by Monday, August 14, may be eligible to receive benefits backdated to August 2022 — meaning veterans may receive reimbursements for health care costs incurred dating back to August 2022
The original August 9 deadline to apply was extended until this Monday. Georgia veterans can find more information about the PACT Act and apply for benefits at VA.Gov/PACT.
The PACT Act is a new law that expands VA health care and benefits for Veterans exposed to burn pits, Agent Orange, and other toxic substances.
It adds to the list of health conditions that we assume (or “presume”) are caused by exposure to these substances.
The full name of the law is The Sergeant First Class (SFC) Heath Robinson Honoring our Promise to Address Comprehensive Toxics (PACT) Act.
The PACT Act will bring these changes:
- Expands and extends eligibility for VA health care for Veterans with toxic exposures and Veterans of the Vietnam, Gulf War, and post-9/11 eras
- Adds 20+ more presumptive conditions for burn pits, Agent Orange, and other toxic exposures
- Adds more presumptive-exposure locations for Agent Orange and radiation
- Requires VA to provide a toxic exposure screening to every Veteran enrolled in VA health care
- Helps us improve research, staff education, and treatment related to toxic exposures
