GRANITEVILLE, SOUTH CAROLINA – Republican Presidential Candidate Ted Cruz gave a spiritual message to hundreds of South Carolinian’s on Sunday.
An Aiken County satellite church live streamed the Texas Senator’s sermon from the Beaufort, South Carolina church. WJBF News Channel 6’s Stefany Bornman has the church member’s reaction to his religious testimony.
Community Bible Church is not endorsing the Senator, but a spokesperson for the church says this is an opportunity for people to hear Ted Cruz preach and decide for themselves if he is the real deal.
“We are here today because I think every one of us understands our country is in a crisis,” said Republican Presidential Candidate Ted Cruz.
G.O.P. Presidential hopeful Ted Cruz led Sunday’s worship for members and guests of the Community Bible Church in Beaufort, South Carolina. In Graniteville Community Bible Church had his speech on the big screen.
“I don’t believe our Head Pastor Broggi would give up his pulpit for just a political speech,” Community Bible Church member Tracy Walsh told WJBF News Channel 6.
Church goers say they were excited to hear Cruz talk about the biblical role of government and hear him proclaim the word of God.
“And people are waking up. There is a spirit of awakening and a spirit of revival. That is sweeping South Carolina and is sweeping this country,” Cruz said.
“Just very interesting to hear his spiritual side to see if he is for real because some many people present themselves as Christians and they truly aren’t.” Community Bible Church Administrator David Klopfer said.
“And I do believe that as a nation, under God, that we should support a Godly man to be president of the United States of America,” said Community Bible Church guest Nita Zachow.
The Republican Presidential Candidate also took some time to talk about the death of Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia. “He changed the entire course of American law. He defended the notion that our constitution actually means something,” said Cruz.
After hearing the Senator’s sermon, some people in the Palmetto State say his characteristics are what they want in their next leader. “A brilliant man, a great debater, a great leader, and honorable man, a man with integrity, and a man who I think can lead this nation.” Zachow said.
According to some recent South Carolina Primary Election polls, Donald Trump is in the lead. Ted Cruz trailing behind him for second place followed by Marco Rubio and John Kasich.
