Funeral arrangements have been announced for former South Carolina Governor and U.S. Senator Ernest Frederick “Fritz” Hollings, who passed away at his home on the Isle of Palms over the weekend.

Family spokesman Andy Brack, who also served – at times – as spokesman during Hollings’ career in the Senate, confirmed the news Saturday morning.

Visitation will take place on Sunday, April 14th from 3:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. at James A. McAlister funeral home on Savannah Highway in Charleston.

A public observance will take place Monday, April 15th where Sen. Hollings’ body will lie in repose from 10:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. in the South Carolina State House.

Hollings’ funeral will take place on the following day, Tuesday, April 16th, at The Citadel’s Summerall Chapel in Charleston.

Sen. Hollings’ graduated from The Citadel as a commander in 1942 where he would go on to serve in the European Theater during World War II, then used his experience to later solve problems for the Palmetto State and the nation throughout his policital career, according to a statement from the military college.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the Hollings Cancer Center at the Medical University of South Carolina (86 Jonathan Lucas Street, Charleston, SC 29425).
