AUGUSTA, Ga.– Today we’re meeting a dynamic woman to watch in the two-state! Barclay Bishop will be here to introduce us to a local educator who is bringing lots of resources together to improve the lives or local kids.
And speaking of kids, what’s it like to be a foreign student at an American college? We’ve got a lovely young woman with us in the studio, from Brazil, to share her experience.
Bella Bruce is here to explain her very new organization, WLJ Angel Gowns… and her need for volunteers who sew, and why she’s collecting your old wedding gowns, bridesmaids and prom dresses. It’s a heartbreaking story, but you will be very inspired.
Segment one: Living Spotless, Cleaning for a Reason
But first: wrapping up breast cancer awareness month… and this week we’re focusing on a special service for women in cancer treatment– a cleaning service that’s part of the cleaning for a reason network. People battling cancer are often too tired from treatments to deal with daily tasks, like cleaning the house. an organization “cleaning for a reason” has stepped in to help. at any given time, cleaning service is provided to cancer patients in the area, free of charge.
Greg Nicklas owns a cleaning service company that participates in Cleaning for a Reason.
“It’s kind of disheartening for people who can normally do something and all of the sudden they find they’re physically unable to do that. very emotional time so if we can pick up that slack, help them feel better, if we can help we’ll be able to do that.”
And here in Augusta, Living Spotless is part of that network. Jessica Velez is the owner and she became involved in Cleaning for a Reason because she watched her own mother battle cancer while raising a family.

To date, over 21,000 women have received donated cleanings valued at more than $5.9 million through this network of professional cleaning partners.
