SC: Missing middle school students found a day after leaving school

ANDERSON CO., S.C. (WSPA) — Family and authorities searched Tuesday for two students who went missing a day after they walked away from school.

The sheriff’s office confirmed that Kiya Hinds, 11, and Anthony Blake Gibson, 13, walked away from Robert Anderson Middle around 9 a.m. Monday and hadn’t been seen since.

Lt. Sheila Cole said the two students have been found and are fine shortly before noon Tuesday.

The sheriff’s office confirms that Kiya Hinds, 11, and Anthony Blake Gibson, 13, walked away from Robert Anderson Middle around 9 a.m. Monday and haven’t been seen since.

Anderson School District 5 spokesman Kyle Newton said the students arrived at school Monday morning, but never checked into their home rooms.

He said they went to the nurse’s office and left school. They are seen on video leaving the back of the school. Their laptops were found ditched in the woods, Newton said.

The sheriff’s office said that they’re working with the school and family members to find the runaways. The department said it hopes to provide photos of the student later Tuesday.

Kiya is described as about 5 foot 5 inches tall with hazel eyes and brown hair. she was wearing red glasses, blue jeans and a black jacket with purple lining, the Anderson Independent Mail reports. Kiya has a sea-green L.L.Bean backpack with her name, Kiya, written in purple on it.
