Appling, GA – A Columbia County woman was taken to a local hospital early Monday morning after mistakenly drinking liquid air freshener she thought was moonshine.

According to the incident report, 57-year-old Neil Berry, 57, of Tradewinds Drive in Appling, told a Columbia County Sheriff’s Office deputy his estranged wife, 59-year-old Sandra Joyner Berry (of Eubank Drive in Appling), was over at his house before he got home from work late Sunday night.

Berry stated he came home and his wife, told him she drank something from under the cabinet, which was in a plastic water bottle and labeled Apple Cinnamon. She told him that she thought it was left over moonshine when she drank it.

Mr. Berry told deputies he told her that it was air freshener for the car. Then, he said he observed his wife sit down at the table because she became dizzy. He said he began researching the effects of drinking air freshener, when he saw Mrs. Berry fall out of her chair.

He called the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office and placed Mrs. Berry in his vehicle to meet with deputies at Publix on Washington Road at William Few Parkway. The responding deputy saw the woman slumped over and having labored breathing.

Gold Cross EMS responded to transport Mrs. Berry to Doctors Hospital.
