RICHMOND COUNTY, Ga. (WJBF) – The Richmond County Sheriff’s Office has released the name of the man under investigation by Internal Affairs.

Investigator Patrick Kaney is under investigation by the Internal Affiars and Criminal Investigations Divisions regarding missing and/or stolen Controlled Substances from the Narcotics Division on Watkins Street in Augusta.

During the course of the investigation, it was learned that Investigator Kaney took 25 Oxycodone tablets, without permission, in addition to other narcotic substances.

Investigators believe the drugs were taken for personal consumption. There’s currently no evidence that they were distributed to any other person.

On Wednesday, Investigator Kaney was taken to the Charles B. Webster Detention Center and charged with Violation of Oath by Public Officer, Theft by Taking, Possession of Controlled Substance and Tampering with Evidence.

Kaney has been terminated from the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office effective Thursday, December 7th.

The Sheriff’s Office will continue to investigate the incident.

RICHMOND COUNTY, Ga. (WJBF) – NewsChannel 6 has learned that the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office is currently investigating one of their own.

The sheriff’s office released a statement on Wednesday revealing that Internal Affairs Division and Criminal Investigations Division are currently investigating a Richmond County Sheriff’s Office employee.

The statement says that the employee has been placed on administrative leave, pending criminal charges.
