Richmond County deputy on paid leave after shooting


RICHMOND COUNTY, Ga. (WJBF) – Deputy Ray Parker currently on paid administrative leave from the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office.

RICHMOND COUNTY, Ga. (WJBF) — Sunday July 14th at 5:00 AM, Richmond County Deputies responded to a call concerning shots fired at 12th Street and Maxwell Street.

Deputy Parker searched the area for the shooter when he encountered 33-year-old Malik Williamson. Parker found Williamson in the 1100 block of Anderson Avenue.

Williamson refused to obey commands from Deputy Parker. As Williamson walked away, he pulled out a knife with a brass knuckle handle from his waistband. Deputy Parker then grabbed his gun and shot Williamson.

Williamson was taken to Augusta University Medical Center where he is being treated for his injuries. Deputies performed first aid on Williamson until EMS arrived on the scene to take him to the hospital.

An investigation will be made by the GBI.

An investigation is underway following an officer-involved shooting in Richmond County.

Details are limited but we’ve learned the incident happened while authorities were responding to a shots fired call in the area of 12th and Maxwell Streets.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation has been called in to investigate.

The “subject has been transported to AUMC,” officials added.
