They’ve been warning us for years: here comes a roundabout.

“I think it’s the most efficient way to move traffic. It takes a little while to get use to,” said Ralph, an Augusta driver.

That’s what Augusta drivers are doing right now. Looping through intersections, getting used to roundabouts.

“Because it will throw you for a loop, if you are not familiar with the area,” said Charles and Augusta driver.

Alright here’s one of the new roundabouts: Druid park Laney Walker. Familiarity…there’s Paine College…there’s Augusta University.

Traffic engineers have been touting them for years, but now we’re driving in circles.

“I like it.” said Bob.

“No you don’t.”

“Yes I do. One thing about it: it saves lives, keeps wrecks down.” said Bob White.

“It’s cool, I like it very much,” said Rudolph.

“Are people good in Augusta? Good at driving it?”

“Can’t nobody drive in Augusta, you know that,” said Bubba.

Paine College… Augusta University…

Augusta is getting down with roundabouts. We need a theme song…

I’ll be the roundabout…you the words…will make you out and out…the Yes song.”

Bobby sang along.

I’ll be a roundabout you know it.”

“I certainly can’t sing,” said Ralph.

“Neither can I,” I said.

A round and a round we go Out there somewhere in Augusta George Eskola WJBF NewsChannel 6.
