Other Georgia cities don’t randomly drug test all workers

AUGUSTA, Ga. (WJBF) – Requiring all Augusta city workers to be tested at random for drugs would be out of the norm compared to other city’s in the state.

Augusta does not require all workers to take random drug tests, only those in safety sensitive positions.

Augusta’s policy’s compared to other city’s like Savannah, Macon and Athens and it was found those government also do no test the entire workforce.

Commissioner Marion Williams has been pushing for testing all workers even if other cities don’t do it.

“I still think everybody ought to be added to the pool not mandatory drug testing but random drug testing I think safety sensitive is something we determine what it ought to be we can move that level up or down,” said Williams.

A commission committee did not approve renovating the license and inspections building at this time and instead directed staff to explore other options that may be less expensive.
