Evans, GA – A new company is now running Columbia County’s Emergency Notification System, something emergency officials tell us is a good thing.
With this new company comes a new notification system called CodeRED. It brings to Columbia County the latest in emergency alert technology, something that will benefit residents in any type of emergency.
Learn more about the CodeRED Emergency Notification System
The Code Red Emergency Notification System provides emergency management officials with immediate, map-driven information which, in
turn, gives subscribers emergency-related information based on their current location.
“It’s all Internet-based, and we can go in and we can do polygons, circles, we can take roads and code them in, and everybody that has a phone registered with us in that area will get the call.” says Pam Tucker, Director of the Columbia County Emergency Management Agency. Tucker also says there is good news for those residents that registered on the old notification system.
“If you have already registered your cell phone previously, you do not have to register again.” Code Red notifies residents about any life threatening or non-life threatening emergencies, as well as potential hazards. These include anything from an alert issued by law enforcement to road closures, weather-related damage, and even water main breaks.
“I think we all want information about anything impacting our homes where we live, and that’s what this system does, and that’s what separates this system from all other notification systems.” says Tucker
