AUGUSTA,Ga (WJBF) More money is needed for the work at the James Brown Plaza.
The statue area is in line for a major make over including new lights, landscaping and plagues about the singer’s life.
But city engineers say the total cost would be almost 150 thousand dollars, yet only 47 thousand dollars has been budgeted. So another 103 thousand dollars is needed.
Some city leaders are questioning approving the extra funds but commissioner Marion Williams says now isn’t the time to stop the work.
“”We should have done this a long time ago the people are excited who have been downtown I was at the Jazz thing on Sunday night people were coming over looking at how nice it look with the vegetation gone people are really excited but there’s some haters that don’t like it but most of the people understand what we’re doing and what we’re trying to do, ” says Commissioner Marion Williams.
The next phase of the project will be the removal of four or five trees at the plaza that’s scheduled to begin Monday.
