AIKEN COUNTY, S.C. (WJBF) – Incumbent Sheriff Michael Hunt was challenged by Major and Assistant Chief Henry “Hank” Sims.

On Election night, Hunt took an early lead. He’ll be serving Aiken County citizens for another 4 years.

For the last 13 years, Michael Hunt has run the Aiken County Sheriff’s Office.

Hunt has taken aggressive measures to lower crime, he’s decreased the amount of outstanding warrants in the county and strengthened the ties between his deputies and the community they serve.

“What are some things you plan to do in the next 4 years?” Asked WJBF NewsChannel 6’s Stefany Bornman.

“Well we are still taking an aggressive stance on our narcotic enforcement, that drives all of your crime,” Hunt told WJBF NewsChannel 6. “Keep building relationships with the community and our agency, of our crime watch program, and just make sure we keep these partnerships. The key is partnerships.”

The Sheriff says he’s actively working to get body cameras for each deputy.

Hunt says he plans to run again in 2020.
