Man indicted on murder charges in March death of Augusta toddler

AUGUSTA, Ga. (WJBF) – A man has been indicted on murder charges in connection to the death of a 2-1/2-year-old Augusta girl.

Alex Dale Murray was indicted in court on Tuesday.

Augusta, GA (WJBF) – We have learned more information on the events that lead to the eventual death of a 2-1/2 year-old Augusta girl and her mother’s boyfriend being charged with Murder.

According to court documents, 32-year-old Alex Dale Murray is accused of assaulting Jada Mills (also referred to as Jada Bussey) after the child was brought to Children’s Hospital of Georgia on Sunday with head trauma (brain hemorrhage) and internal injuries to her abdominal area (including a lacerated liver).

The girl was placed on active life support when she arrived at the hospital. She died Monday evening from her injuries, according to Richmond County Coroner Mark Bowen.

Murray is facing charges of Aggravated Assault, felony Cruelty to Children in the First Degree, and Murder after the girl’s death.

Murray is also facing Cruelty to Children in the Third Degree due to the fact that an 8-year-old boy reportedly witnessed the spanking. He told officials that Murray tried to force feed the girl then spanked her “numerous times” while she had awakened and that the girl was “struggling to breathe”.

The incident reportedly happened at 3509 Shady Brook Drive in Augusta.

Augusta, GA (WJBF) – We have learned that the charges for a man accused of causing injuries to a 2-1/2 year-old girl that resulted in her death is now facing a Murder charge.

Alex Dale Murray, 32, was originally charged with Aggravated Battery, Cruelty to Children in the First Degree, and Cruelty to Children in the Third Degree when Jada Mills was brought to Children’s Hospital of Georgia with head trauma and internal injuries.

Augusta, GA (WJBF) – A 2-1/2 year-old girl has died from injuries from an apparent assault.

Jada Mills, of 3509 Shady Brook Drive in Augusta, died Monday night around 8:00 p.m. at Children’s Hospital of Georgia (CHOG), according to Richmond County Coroner Mark Bowen.

Bowen tells us that Mills was brought into the CHOG Emergency Room on Sunday around 4:00 p.m. with head trauma and internal injuries.

The alleged boyfriend of Mills’ mother, 32-year-old Alex Dale Murray, has been charged with Aggravated Battery, Cruelty to Children in the First Degree, and Cruelty to Children in the Third Degree.

Due to the circumstances of Mills’ injuries and death, her body will be sent to the GBI-Atlanta Crime Lab for an autopsy.

The Richmond County Sheriff’s Office and Richmond County Coroner’s Office are investigating the incident and subsequent death.
