Laney’s Rod Hall “thought it was crazy” when he heard NFL teams were interested in him. But on Thursday, Hall, who just wrapped up his senior season playing basketball at Clemson, will workout for scouts from several teams a week before the NFL draft.
Hall hasn’t played football since high school, but he was really good at it. A self-described “playmaker,”he was an all-state wide receiver in 2010. In his senior season at Laney, he had over 1200 yards receiving and 13 touchdowns.. It turns out a YouTube video showcasing some of his best plays from that senior season is what caught the eye of some pro scouts.
Hall, listed at 6-1 and 205 pounds, says he played a little bit of catch with a football on Wednesday. That was the first time in a long time he’d caught a football. He says there’s not much he really can do to get ready for the tryout, but he still thinks he’ll do just fine on Thursday, “it’s like riding a bike.”
Hall says the Panthers, Saints, Chiefs, and Ravens are the teams that he knows will be represented at his workout Thursday.
Hall, who averaged 9 points and 3 assists his senior season for the Clemson men’s basketball team, says he is still considering trying to pursue a professional basketball career. Right now, he says he just weighing all his options.
Hall says he’s set to graduate on May 8th with a major in Parks & Recreation. When his basketball or football career ends, he says he wants to eventually run a Boys & Girls Club because they played such a big role in his life growing up.
For now, he say he’s just focused on Thursday’s workout and trying to enjoy the moment,”It is very exciting.”
