Grovetown, GA – A Grovetown, Georgia woman has been arrested and is facing charges after being accused of beating, and killing, her family dog.

On Wednesday, just before 9:00 p.m., a Grovetown Department of Public Safety officer responded to a home on the 300 block of Gulkana Court in Grovetown in reference to a call concerning animal cruelty.

According to the incident report, when the officer arrived, he spoke with Jacob Barfield, who said he had been at school most of the day. Barfield told the officer he had gotten an earlier text message from his wife, 26-year-old Stephanie Barfield, saying she had “‘f*****’ the dog up and and that it was probably going to die and that she didn’t care anymore and had blacked out and she was scared she was going to kill the other two dogs.”

Mr. Barfield told the officer he then came home and picked up his wife for an appointment and saw the German Shepherd with a little blood in its mouth and he thought the dog would be fine. He said, when he got back home, he found the dog laying in a “large pool of blood” that was coming out of its mouth and that the dog was not breathing.

Stephanie Barfield, was contacted by the officer and asked about the dog. She told the officer she “popped” the dog earlier because he was chewing on furniture, but she said she did not “beat” the dog.

Columbia County Animal Control officers responded and they said it appeared the dog had “internal bleeding from traumatic injuries”.

The investigation determined that Stephanie Barfield had injured the dog, which caused internal bleeding and that caused the dog’s death. She was booked on a felony count of Cruelty to Animals.
