Former USC Aiken coach going to 1st D1 College World Series after 21 years

The Coastal Carolina Chanticleers are celebrating their first ever trip to the College World Series. The celebration is extra special for their longtime head coach, former USC Aiken Coach, Gary Gilmore.Gilmore was an assistant at USC Aiken from 1986-1989. He was head coach of the Pacers from 1990-95, and led the Pacers to the D2 College World Series in 1993. He and the Chanticleers baseball program had never been to the D1 World Series in Omaha until now, thanks to a 2-0 super regional sweep of LSU. “For me personally, I’ve been at Coastal for I think 21 years,” Gilmore said after Sunday’s walk-off win over the Tigers. “And when I got hired, I made the distinction of saying one day this program would go to Omaha. I think they thought I was smoking something.”

The Chanticleers have another connection to the CSRA. Freshman pitcher Brandon Miller went to Aiken High School.
