Columbia County investigators are searching for clues into the death of a former Richmond County Sheriff’s Office deputy.

Michael Dodaro was found dead in his home in Columbia County on Wednesday.

A Columbia County Sheriff’s Office deputy arrived at the Dodaro home while CPR was in progress. Stephanie Dodaro called 911 when she found her husband laying unconscious and face down on the kitchen floor. She reportedly attempted to perform CPR.

Mrs. Dodaro did not know exactly when she last saw Mr. Dodaro alive, but believes it was at approximately 7:00 p.m. Wednesday night. Her husband reportedly had mentioned to her he had fallen down earlier Wednesday.

Another deputy arrived on scene and found Mr. Dodaro was unresponsive. Gold Cross Med 1 arrived on scene.

Columbia County Deputy Coroner Harriet Garrison and a Columbia County Sheriff’s Office investigator were notified and responded to the scene.

Dodaro had also previously worked for the Hephzibah Police Department before being fired after being arrested for DUI. He had also been arrested for DUI while he was driving a county-issued vehicle when he was a Richmond County Sheriff’s Office deputy.
