RCSO: Cougar Drive shooting incident was self defense


#UPDATE | May 24, 2021 (WJBF) – During the investigation, deputies found the deceased, Ira Green, pointed a gun at several people at the Cougar Drive location.

That was when he was shot by one of the victims identified as 22-year old Christopher Hayes.

No charges are being made at this time, as it was determined Hayes was acting in self-defense.

AUGUSTA, GA (WJBF) — On Saturday,  May 22nd, at 9:43 pm, Richmond County deputies responded to the 2300 block of Cougar Drive in reference to shots fired.

When they arrived, they found a man, later identified as 58-year-old Ira Green, dead at the scene from at least one gunshot wound. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Green will have an autopsy at the GBI Lab on Monday.
