Richmond County schools have a new program that is designed to give students a head start on careers in the cyber industry.

It’s called the Cyber Academy, and it is offered at the county’s Technical Career Magnet School.

Classes are held in two-hour blocks and the people behind the program say it condenses a year’s worth of classes into one semester.

“By the end of their sophomore year, they’ve completed the pathway, and at that point they’re able to do duel enrollment and go to Augusta Tech, walk right over to the campus over there and complete their Cyber Security Associate’s Degree,” says Jason Stark, program specialist.

At the end of the cyber academy’s pathway program, students can take the cyber security plus exam which certifies them.
