Woman charged after having over 60 dead animals in her home

FAYETTEVILLE, AR (KNWA) - UPDATE: Authorities arrested Debbie Cain, 62, for eight counts of felony animal cruelty and 62 counts of misdemeanor animal cruelty. She was transported to the Washington County Detention Center.

Deputies seized 67 dogs, eight goats, one pony and one rabbit. These animals were not voluntarily surrendered to the Washington County Sheriff’s Office.

Due to the number of animals seized, they will be held in various locations.


LINCOLN, Ark. (KNWA) -- Washington County law enforcement agencies rescued more than 60 dogs and other animals from a Lincoln home where several other animals were found dead.

An officer at the scene in the 100 block of Highway 45 said that the homeowner was taken into custody.

When officers arrived, they founds scores of dead animals. Several bags were filled with the carcasses.

The officer said he and other officers had never before seen anything like what they encountered at the residence.

Over 60 dogs, eight goats and one rabbit were rescued from the home and will be taken to local animal shelters for care.

Prairie Grove Police Department, Washington County Sheriff's Office and Washington County Animal Control responded to the home.

A horse was also taken from the property, but no information was provided on whether the horse was alive or dead.
