AUGUSTA, Ga. (WJBF) – The former owner of the Grovetown Christmas attraction, Lights of the South, is out of jail.

54-year-old Benjamin Bell was released Friday after sitting in a cell for nearly a month.

Bell was thrown in jail on a Contempt of Superior Court charge.

Last month, Judge Wade Padgett ordered Bell to pay his ex-wife $34,000 and when Bell couldn’t pay it, he was handcuffed and booked.

Friday, Judge Padgett ordered Bell to get a job and find a reasonable way to pay back his ex-wife.

We interviewed Bell’s mother, Johnette Bell, last week.

Mrs. Bell tells us her son is broke because of promises he made when he got divorced.

She says her son no longer has anything to do with Lights of the South or Scuttle’s Island Water Park.
