He will be autopsied at the GBI la in Atlanta.

Richmond County investigators are working on a new case. First responders rushed to the corner of Deans Bridge and Milledgeville Roads Monday afternoon responding to a shooting.

“In our society, today violence is something that we have to live with,” said Augusta Commissioner Dennis Williams.

The Sherrif’s Office reports the shooting happened at 5:20 p.m., at Short Stop. Deputies said they found a 27-year-old man wounded. The shooting happened in Commissioner Williams’ district. He got to the scene shortly after the shooting happened.

He said, “Crime is something that we have to deal with and it may be bad today but it will be better tomorrow.”

According to the Sheriff’s Office, the shooting victim was shot in the head. He was then quickly taken to Augusta University Medical Center. Some witnesses tell NewsChannel 6 the man was shot while on a bicycle.

The business, according to responding deputies, had been struck multiple times while the store’s two clerks and a customer were inside.

Bullets fired during the incident didn’t only hit the victim and the building, a bullet was also found to have entered a nearby car with a woman and her three children, ages 1, 4, and 7, inside. The woman nor her children were harmed in the shooting.

Commissioner Williams said the Short Stop was recently upgraded and he hardly ever gets calls about the business.

He added, “It’s fairly new. It’s freshly painted. They’ve done a lot of work to bring it up and it’s a good-looking facility. A lot better than what it used to be.”
