Several S.C. inmates on death row file a federal lawsuit against State Department of Corrections

Crime News

Several inmates on South Carolina’s death row have filed a federal lawsuit against the State Department of Corrections.

The suit challenges the use of solitary confinement.

Attorneys for the inmates say some of their clients have been held in solitary for as long as 20 years.

The attorneys say long periods of isolation put inmates at risk for physical, mental, and emotional problems.

There are 38 inmates on death row in South Carolina.

19 are involved in this lawsuit.
