At 4:50am, Richmond County deputies responded to a call regarding a barricaded person on the 2000 block of Dudley Street.

Deputies identified the barricaded person as 39-year-old Antonio Rodriguez Grant. Grant broke into the home at 4:00am and proceeded to hold an adult woman at gunpoint.

Grant told the woman he would kill her if she tried to escape. She eventually escaped from Grant and was able to call 9-1-1.

Upon arrival, deputies found Grant had barricaded himself inside of the home. Grant fired at least two gunshots outside of the window upstairs as deputies tried to secure the area.

Richmond County SWAT negotiators were able to make contact with Grant. Grant threatened to set the house on fire and kill himself.

He proceeded to set the home on fire and make an escape through the window on the second floor. Grant was arrested by the SWAT team and taken to the hospital for an evaluation.

Grant will be transported to the Charles B. Webster Detention Center.

He was charged with:

  • Aggravated assault upon a police officer
  • False imprisonment
  • Burglary in the 1st degree
