UPDATE:
Three people are recovering tonight after a car chase in North Augusta ended with a crash.
Officers say they got tipped off that the driver of a green SUV had stolen keys from the Walmart on Knox Avenue.
North Augusta Public Safety tried to stop the vehicle and that’s when it crashed into the parking lot of Aldi on Knox Avenue.
“I pull up and there’s a lady on the ground. Of course, your instinct is to try and figure out what’s going on. I look over there and everyone is saying different stories,” said Witness Ryane Day.
The driver tried to run but officers caught him in the parking lot.
He was taken into custody and then to the hospital for treatment.
A woman was rushed to AU-Medical Center with a severe head wound.
Officers are still working to find out if she was thrown from the vehicle or if she attempted to jump out.
“I mean it’s a scary situation because living right down the road, you never know what’s going to happen,” said Day.
A third passenger was taken into questioning.
He was also taken to the hospital to get checked out.
“A vehicle crashing into a pole…you wouldn’t expect to see something like that happen going grocery shopping,” said Day.
Officers are still trying to piece together what happened and who will be charged in relation to the crash.
NewsChannel 6 is also working to get the names of the three people involved in the police chase.
