UPDATE: Aiken County dispatch says James Cowart is now in custody.
An Aiken County man says he was doing yard work around 8 am at his home on Huntclief Trace, Saturday morning.
He said he turned around and saw Cowart in his yard.
The man said Cowart looked dirty and suspected Cowart spent the night in the woods behind his home.
The Sheriff’s Office says James Cowart crashed his vehicle into a tree on Silverbluff Road at Bella Visita in Aiken at 2:42 pm., Friday.
He fled the scene on foot.
Cowart is wanted for Failure to Register as a Sex Offender, Failure to Stop for Law Enforcement, a Contempt Warrant and by South Carolina Probation and Parole.
He also has charges out of Columbia County.
Two passengers were inside the car at the time of the crash.
The female passenger was taken to the hospital for treatment and the male passenger declined medical treatment.

UPDATE: The Aiken County Sheriff’s Office says they are still searching for a wanted suspect.
The Sheriff’s Office says James Cowart crashed his vehicle into a tree on Silverbluff Road at Bella Visita in Aiken at 2:42 pm. He fled the scene on foot.
Two passengers were inside the car at the time of the crash. The female passenger was taken to the hospital for treatment and the male passenger declined medical treatment.
Cowart was not located after an extensive search of the area near the crime scene.
He was last seen wearing a red shirt and white shorts. He is wanted for Failure to Register as a Sex Offender, Failure to Stop for Law Enforcement, a Contempt Warrant and by South Carolina Probation and Parole. He also has charges out of Columbia County.
He is considered armed and dangerous.

The Aiken County Sheriff’s Office along with SLED are currently looking for a man in the SilverBluff Road area.
According to a spokesperson, the suspect, James Lester Cowart, took off after crashing his car into a tree.
Cowart is wanted on several charges including failing to register as a sex offender.
Deputies along with a helicopter are searching the area of Silver Bluff Road, Creek Ridge Road, Glenwood Drive and Richardsons Lake Road.
