Crime News

Richmond County investigators said 36-year-old Dewey Miller “Bobby” Brown is charged in the death of 25-year-old Roosevelt Williams Jr.

A street that neighbors said is usually quiet…  took a loud turn Monday afternoon.

Richmond County Sheriff’s Office said deputies arrived on scene a little before two. They walked into to the apartment to find two men fighting. Once separated, Roosevelt Williams became unresponsive. That is when deputies began CPR until EMS arrived.

“One was pronounced dead here at 3:15. The other is at the hospital– his condition unknown,” Coroner Mark Bowen told NewsChannel 6.

Investigators tell us Williams did not appear to have any gunshot wounds, so the way he died is still being investigated.

NewsChannel 6’s Samantha Williams asked Bowen: “And you said they didn’t live here. Tell us a little about that.”

“Right they were doing some work here at the apartment…. Just working on the apartment here,” Bowen responded.

NewsChannel 6’s Samantha Williams also talked with the men’s boss. He did not want to go on camera, but he told us this was unexpected…. And that the two have never shown any signs of aggression toward one another.

Joe Armstrong has lived in the apartments for months. He told us the men have been working on the apartment all weekend: “It went from what sounded like hammers to them rolling carpet out. I didn’t think anything of it until I got a knock on the door.”

He said when he answered the door, a younger man– who was also working with the two who were fighting– asked him for help. That’s when Armstrong called 911.

NewsChannel 6’s Samantha Williams asked Armstrong: “So you didn’t go in there? You called 911?”

“No I didn’t go in there. My wife is in my apartment with me, and she is 5 months pregnant,” He replied. “That was the first thing I thought of.”

The Crime Scene Unit, investigators and District Attorney Natalie Paine all came out to assist.

But for Armstrong, the day’s events won’t soon be forgotten: ” I wish there was something I could have done to help, but…”

Corner Bowen said the body will be sent to the GBI Lab in Atlanta Tuesday morning.

The victim’s family also reached out to us. They are sad and want answers. They explained he was a good father and will truly be missed.

We’ll keep you updated on this investigation.
