Former Richmond County Deputy suspected of setting fire to Augusta bar arrested

AUGUSTA, Ga. (WJBF) – According to the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office, Tavaris Young, a former Richmond County Deputy, is now behind bars.

Young was hired as a Jailor on May 24, 2014 and was promoted to Deputy on October 14, 2015. Young voluntarily resigned on February 5, 2018.

Young was arrested on June 16th and charged with Arson in the First Degree.

Young allegedly set fire to Ikonz Sports Bar on North Leg Road on May 21.

No word yet on a motive.
