A man changed the locks on a stranger’s East Nashville home and rented it out to unsuspecting people, a Metro police report states.
Joshua Finney, 44, was charged Thursday morning with aggravated burglary.
According to an arrest affidavit, a man inherited the home on Neill Avenue in March 2018 when the owner passed away.
Water and electricity were kept on in the home, the paperwork states, but the new owner visited infrequently.
When he stopped at the house in December 2018, everything seemed normal, he told investigators.
He returned in March to let a realtor view it and said he discovered two people were living there.
Finney was also there at the time and when the new owner confronted the suspect, he responded “I’m going to get some milk, I’ll be right back” and took off, the arrest report states.
Police said the two people who rented the home told officers Finney claimed he had received the home from a deceased relative.
Some of the property from inside the residence was located at a nearby home that belonged to a relative of Finney, investigators said.
Finney was eventually located and lodged in the Metro jail on a $15,000 bond.
