AUGUSTA, Ga. (WJBF) – A suspect is still at large following a stand off at home located on the 1400 block of Hunter Street.
It all started with a domestic violence call of shots fired, and it resulted in a standoff with the Richmond County SWAT team, Bomb Squad and deputies.
“When we have something like this happen all of our departments become involved,” said Sgt. William McCarty with the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office.
Officers surrounded the home on the 1400 block of Hunter Street. Their weapons, pointed at the house.
They were looking for this man, 23-year-old Terrell Crawford.
He said, “We are in the process of putting out a bolo for him to which includes a previous charge, warrant for aggravated assault and several more charges to include aggravated assault stemming from this incident and we’ll have that out shortly.”
One of those assaults allegedly happened on Florence street in July. He’s wanted for questioning in another aggravated assault on Perry Street within days of the first assault.
Sgt. William McCarty with the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office says Crawford is considered armed and dangerous.
No injuries were reported from the standoff and deputies say family members inside of the home were able to evacuate before deputies got there, but officers weren’t sure of that when they first arrived.
“At this point we cannot confirm 100 percent that the suspect is inside the house, however we are taking every precaution,” said Sgt. McCarty.
Deputies sent in a robot from the bomb squad before they entered the house. They searched storage units in the backyard before they went in the home and the house next door. The search lasted for 20 minutes before they declared it all clear. If you have any information on the whereabouts of Crawford, you’re urged to call the Richmond County’s Sheriff’s office at 706-821-1080.
