AUGUSTA (WJBF) – The Richmond County Coroner’s Office is investigating a shooting death that took place Thursday morning around 12: 45 a.m.

Damien Tanksley, 35 years old of the 500 block of Richmond Hill Road was shot at least one time at the Get It To Go store on the 2300 Block of Windsor Spring Road. In addition, 47-year-old Sonya Logan and 39-year-old Willie Gonder were also shot in the incident.

Upon investigation, it was discovered that Tanksley had a verbal altercation with 21-year-old Kahlil Lawrence. During the altercation, Tanksley grabbed a firearm and threatened to kill Lawrence several times. Lawrence who was also armed, asked Tanksley several times to leave him alone. After his attempts failed, Lawrence shot Tanskley. Tanksley attempted to return fire, when it is believed that he shot Willie Gonder and Sonya Logan. 

Tanksley, Gonder and Logan were was transported by EMS to Augusta University Medical Center. Tanksley succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at 10:21 a.m. 

An autopsy will be scheduled.

At this time, there will be no charges against Kahlil Lawrence.
