Local leaders in Columbia County will come together to host a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the long-awaited Riverwatch extension project. The expansion is the first and largest of eight major road construction projects under the county’s Transportation Investment Act.
The project includes widening and improvements from Baston Road to Washington Road. Community members voted to approve the project the project back in 2012. The cost of the expansion totals 65 million dollars.
Tammy Shepherd with the Columbia County Chamber of Commerce says the process was long but worth the wait.
“We’ve been waiting on this project since 1993 or earlier to be complete. It’s a major corridor for business growth, for our residents, for the county and the greater Augusta area so we’re excited to celebrate,” Shepherd said.
The ceremony will be held on Tuesday at 1 pm at Kelley Park in Martinez and will include remarks from both Shepherd and County Chairman Ron Cross.
