A Columbia County bus driver has been arrested, charged with several counts of child molestation.

On Wednesday, Matthew Mays was arrested in reference to a non-school related incident that allegedly occurred in 20-16.

He has been charged with child molestation, aggravated child molestation, and sexual battery against a child under 16 years old.

Mays was hired by the school district earlier this year.

He was the driver for school bus 2306, serving Cedar Ridge Elementary, Harlem Middle and Harlem High Schools.

According to a spokesperson for Columbia County schools, Mays has since been released from his position.

The school district urges anyone with concerns related to this driver, to report them immediately.
