COLUMBIA COUNTY, Ga. (WJBF) – A man has been charged with murder in the death of a 61-year-old man in Evans on Monday.

According to the incident report filed by the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office in the murder investigation at a Evans Lake Drive home, a person on-scene told responding deputies that 41-year-old Anthony Burns told her he thought he’d killed 61-year-old Howard Winning.

Authorities say that they found Winning unresponsive in the bathroom.

The incident report indicates that Winning and Burns knew one another, lived together and were friends.

Burns was found outside the home and, according to the incident report filed in the case, said he and Winning had been in a fight. Burns was taken into custody as a suspect and was later charged with Winning’s murder.
