The Burke County Police Department has arrested a man wanted in connection with an Aggravated Battery.

32-year-old Dedrick Phillips is charged with Aggravated Battery in connection with an assault that occurred in Waynesboro at Magnolia Acres and was broadcast on social media.

Officials say a man was beaten and is now in the hospital recovering with injuries. The Richmond County Sheriff’s Office does has an outstanding warrant on him.

Additional arrests and charges related to the assault are forthcoming.

Chief Deputy Lewis Blanchard released the following statement on the assault:

“We understand that many individuals may not jump in to help during an assault, fight, or shooting.  However, dialing 911 at the very least a morale obligation and certainly could save lives.  Multiple rounds fired around children, families, infants and others is absurd and will not be tolerated.  We are working hard to ensure every participant is brought to justice.”
