This missing persons case could have ended a whole lot worse. But as a result of the suspect and the teen going to a place routinely patrolled by deputies, the story ended well.
“One of our deputies that was on routine patrol happened to see the motorcycle,” explained Chief Lewis Blanchard with Burke County Sheriff’s Office.
A lime green bike on a proactive patrol is all one Burke County Sheriff’s Deputy needed to bring a missing Richmond County teen girl home.
Chief Blanchard added, “He did come to he door. We didn’t have to do any forced entry or anything like that. He came outside and was taken into custody without incident.”
Deputies found 41-year-old Fritz Wedgeworth in a camper in the 4600 block of River Road. He is a registered sex offender. Inside was 15-year-old Areanna Guy who was reported missing after leaving Butler High School Wednesday afternoon. The two made it to that camper in the country, where Chief Lewis Blanchard says a small amount of marijuana was also found in the camper he was leasing. Because the area is highly patrolled, it made the rescue easy.
“Sometimes God makes our job a little bit easier,” Chief Blanchard said. “Everything happens in the world for a reason. Sometimes people are in the right place at the right time.”
