COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) – A bill that would make getting Viagra and other drugs to treat erectile dysfunction nearly as hard to obtain as an abortion in South Carolina is going before a House committee.

Rep. Mia McLeod has said she knows her bill doesn’t have a chance to pass the Republican and male-dominated Legislature. But she wants to use hearings like the one Wednesday before the House Medical, Military, Public and Municipal Affairs Committee to make a point.

McLeod says lawmakers have no business regulating men’s sexual lives and they should stay out of women’s reproductive issues.

Other parts of McLeod’s bill include requiring a patient to get a sworn statement from a sexual partner about their problems and counseling that celibacy is a valid life choice before getting a prescription.
